To open

backyard gardenThe month of April seems to be appropriately named. April finds its roots in the Latin Aprilis which is derived from the Latin aperire which means “to open.” As I walked through the yard last evening, I was amazed how in just a few short weeks our garden plants that were just peeking through the soil have grown into full foliage. Opening themselves to receive the sun’s light, they have been drawn forth to reveal the beauty that was tucked securely within, safe from the bitter cold claws of winter.

How appropriate that our celebration of Easter should fall in the month of April. Easter “sunrise” invites each of us to open ourselves to receive the Light of our Son. We are drawn forth out of the darkness to receive the Light of Christ. It is this light that invites us to be the best version of ourselves. It is through this Light, if we willingly open ourselves to fully receive it, that we can become light for others and our world can become a better place.

During this month of April, what are you being called to open yourself to receive?
