Sister Marita Beumer

SOMETHING FOR CONFESSION - This happened in Burkettsville during the early 1960’s in my second-grade classroom. Back then, the children received both the Sacraments of Reconciliation and First Eucharist in the spring. They also received Reconciliation several times before receiving Eucharist. One afternoon as the children were preparing to leave, I told them they would be receiving the Sacrament of Reconciliation again the next day. As the children lined up to get on the bus, I noted that one of the boys looked very sad and melancholic. I was wondering if he may have had an unpleasant experience the last time that he received the Sacrament of Reconciliation. So, I made a mental note to check on his spirit the next morning. Well, the next morning he came skipping happily to his desk. I just said, “You look very happy this morning.” And he joyfully replied, “Yes, I sinned (hit my sister) so that I would have something for Confession.”
