Sometimes a fun event has a subtle vocations effort mixed in.

That was the case April 18 when Sisters of the Precious Blood Regina Albers and Mary Yarger operated a station during Spiritual Survivor 2012, which attracted more than 450 junior high school students. At the Sisters’ booth, students were given 10 questions on the Sisters of the Precious Blood. Points were awarded for correct answers.

The annual event, held on the grounds of the Spiritual Center of Maria Stein, included 54 stations that challenged the students on their knowledge of religion and reliance on each other. The students, who were from parishes in the St. Mary’s and Sidney deaneries, accumulated points for correctly completing the challenges. Students from Sts. Peter and Paul Parish in Newport won the event and received a traveling trophy that they keep for a year.

While the event was fast-paced with little time for personal interaction, the mere presence of Sisters Regina and Mary helped raise an awareness of the congregation and vocations to religious life.

“For the children I think was an effort to have them realize we Sisters are here,” Sister Regina said. “Doing something like this and having fun with it, and yet I’m sure these kids learned something doing this, is a wonderful way of working with the kids.”
