Living our memory

eucharistIn the opening prayer at the beginning of the Palm Sunday liturgy, we hear: Today we gather together to herald with the whole Church the beginning of the celebration of our Lord’s Paschal Mystery. This “purpose statement” which begins holy week is rich! We are told that this week is to be done together — and it is to be a celebration. We receive (and hopefully wave) palms as those heralds who are beginning the week that identifies and bonds us as Christians, people who not only remember the events of Jesus passion and resurrection but also live personally in terms of those events. We will wave palms, wash feet, and kiss crosses this week. And holding it all together, so precious to us Precious Blood Sisters, is the institution of Eucharist with its sacred imperative: Do this in memory of me. Let’s hold one another in prayer this week and with us all those who have gone before us in the eternal living community of the Sisters of the Precious Blood.
